Finally bought my guitar. I came into the capital for a day and met up with a friend (Meredith). We had a nice lunch in the colonial zone (cheeseburger – when will I learn that this is always a bad idea). Then we ventured out for my guitar. I found/still find the following interaction entirely too funny…but you have to remember that all of this happened in Spanish…I think that’s what makes it so funny to me…
We were browsing the guitars, asking random questions about them, and we come across some really small guitars. We ask if they were ukeleles or just smaller guitars…
Owner: “No those are guitars for kids.”
Me/Meredith: “Ohh okay, they’re for kids.”
Owner: “Or you know…smaller individuals.”
Me: “Like midgets?”
Owner: “Exactly.”
Me/Meredith: “HAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA” Okay…even the owner and other people in the store were laughing…probably mostly at me, and the fact that the Americana somehow, unexpectedly knew the word for midget…(or else they found the image of a midget strumming away at one of these miniature guitars as amusing as I did).
Clearly I spend my time studying only the most important, relevant Spanish vocabulary.
Little people, big world has certainly influenced your outlook.

Gee, I had a ukelele when I was a kid, but for some reason, I could only play Hawaiian songs on it!?! Go figure. I wish when I got a guitar I was able to play like Segovia, ah well.
